Professor David Veale is a Consultant Psychiatrist at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and a Visiting Professor in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapies at King’s College London. An internationally recognised expert in anxiety and obsessive–compulsive related disorders, he specialises in OCD, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, emetophobia, health anxiety and treatment-resistant depression. He has authored over 100 scientific papers and several books, led national specialist services, and contributed to NICE guidelines and ICD-11 diagnostic criteria. Professor Veale is also deeply involved in mental-health advocacy, including founding roles with OCD Action, the BDD Foundation, and Emetophobia Action. His work bridges clinical excellence, research innovation, and compassionate advocacy — making him a leading voice in evidence-based psychological therapy.
