EFT is making key specific contributions to the art and science of psychotherapy, our understanding of human strengths and vulnerabilities and the creation of secure empowering relationships. These contributions offer a path forward through the darkness of chaos and uncertainty to a place where we can stand together and find the balance needed to confront our many problems. The future of EFT and its potential to help build a more secure world where we can understand who we are and how we can grow as human beings will be outlined.

This is the first session after Frank went away for 2 weeks. 6 months after therapy began. At the beginning of this session, Indie seems to be doing well. It also emerges that Indie has been using cocaine and seems to dismiss this as a minor slip-up.

The concept of "Moral Injury" was explicitly brought into the limelight by Prof. Brett Litz in his 2009 seminal paper. Moral dilemmas recur frequently in the consulting room with veterans and others. An example of a moral dilemma is as a veteran witnessing sexual abuse and at the same time having the desire to shoot the perpetrator to end this unpleasant scene. The unpleasantness of such a moral dilemma is that both outcomes contradict one's moral compass. After such a dilemma - with whichever outcome - patients experience a gnawing sense of guilt, and if this guilt is not explicitly addressed, this feeling will continue to trouble the patient for life.

Ad and Lisanne review the memories they worked on in the previous sessions. The SUD of these memories have decreased remarkably. Next, they focus on the memories related to a negative self-image, such as the belief “I am not okay”. Together they can conclude positively with “I am self-aware”.

In this 20th session, Anne enters the therapy room angry. Nel shows how she deals with Anne's anger: she looks along with Anne's perception of the other, or, in other words, what the patient 'makes' of the practitioner. The first intervention is 'looking along' with the patient in how she sees the practitioner and naming that 'dyad' of subject (the patient) - object (the practitioner) and the connecting affect (anger, hurt). You can see that Anne feels understood in this 'negative transference' and becomes calmer. Later, Nel connects this negative dyad with the repelled dyad, namely the desire to get it right with the practitioner (interpretation): "you are so angry because you actually needed me so much". This connects the negative dyad with underlying the positive one and leads to more integration (the goal of TFP).

In this 25th session, Anne talks about a conflict with a group member in group therapy. During the conversation, Anne gets angry with Dawn. Dawn demonstrates an important element of MBT, mentalizing in the relationship. This is also an important part of relational mentalizing.

During the sixth session, a Zoom conversation takes place in which they follow the ABC model. "B" represents the sticking point they want to work on.
