Dr. Sue Johnson is a professor, author and clinical psychologist in the couples therapy field. She has done years of research on how relationships work, how they can be fixed and how people change in psychotherapy. She is the most important developer of the Emotionally Focused (Couples and Family) Therapy (EFT). Sue received many awards for her work on developing EFT, among which the APA's ‘Family Psychologist of the Year’ in 2016 and the Order of Canada in 2017. Her best-seller book Hold Me Tight (2008) has been the basis of a relationship-improvement program; Hold Me Tight online. Sue Johnson trains other professionals in EFT worldwide. She is the founder and director of the International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT) where she connects 70 centers worldwide and where she supports therapists in learning and researching EFT.
